Marcin Piotrowski
Software Engineer · IT Consultant
I'm a software developer with 4+ years of commercial experience, specialising in Java backend development. I've contributed to large-scale public sector projects — customs and tax systems handling very large transaction volumes — and hold a Master's degree in Computer Science from Warsaw University of Technology.
I built this site because computer science and software engineering aren't just my job, but also my passion. Here I publish posts about what I'm currently working on or interested in — from new technologies and good coding practices to exploring the fundamentals of how artificial intelligence works.
If something on my site catches your interest, or you have any questions, feel free to get in touch 🙂

SOLON TAXIn recognition of my contributions on previous projects, I was promoted to senior software engineer while remaining on SOLON TAX. I'm now in a strong, hands-on technical role focused on backend development — leading an initiative to simplify the system architecture, a wide-reaching task spanning everything from development to DevOps.
When my time on ERMIS came to an end, I joined the SOLON TAX team, responsible for multi-jurisdiction indirect tax settlement. I tailored the solution to client-specific requirements ahead of go-live.
After a while, I was transferred back to ERMIS. This time I analysed, designed, and implemented new features to keep pace with evolving EU customs legislation. I designed a range of BPMN processes supporting customs declaration handling across many EU countries.
After ERMIS successfully went live, I was assigned to a new project — DIAS, a comprehensive digital corporate tax platform. I built system integrations for exchanging tax data, implemented internal control mechanisms aligned with the client's security requirements, and improved deadline-monitoring processes. In the meantime, I earned my Master's degree in Computer Science from Warsaw University of Technology. The project grew my skills in working with a large public-sector client and in maintaining and evolving complex enterprise systems.
My first project at Netcompany, working on a leading European customs platform. I was primarily responsible for test automation, implementing small-scale features, and providing technical support to the testing teams. Around the same time, I got a taste of working in a large international corporation — I visited Copenhagen many times to attend training sessions and integrate better with the team.
Joined as Java Developer (IT Consultant)
After completing my engineering degree, I decided to take the next step in my career. Although I really enjoyed my time at TRUMPF, I dreamed of being part of larger-scale projects, so I decided to join the large Danish corporation Netcompany.

Apr 2021 – Jun 2022PHP Developer
During my internship, I took the initiative to replace slow, error-prone spreadsheets with a full-fledged web application backed by a database. It turned out to be a bullseye — it solved all the existing pain points and opened the door to further improvements. When the internship ended, I was offered a part-time role, which I combined with my studies so I could keep developing the application.
Intern
In my third year of studies, I landed an internship at a company producing advanced power supplies. It started small — my main task was maintaining spreadsheets that relied on Visual Basic macros. I learned a lot about working in a large company during that time.
